President Obama admits his new phone is an embarrassment

Technically Incorrect: Finally, he doesn't have a BlackBerry. The new one, however, isn't a smartphone as we know it.

As president, you might have your finger on the nuclear button.

Your personal technology, however, may leave something to be desired.

Simple things like the ability to text, for example.

Appearing with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, President Barack Obama explained that he was "this cool high-tech guy" when he entered office.

In those days BlackBerrys were still cool. "I've still got the clip on the belt," he said.

This year, things changed. BlackBerrys aren't so cool anymore. So his staff upgraded him.

"They said, good news Mr. President, we're going to give you a smartphone," he said. His wife and daughters, he said, are already phone experts. Was he finally going to catch up?

He was given a new phone -- not a BlackBerry, but the president didn't reveal what sort it was.


But his staff then told him: "For security reasons -- this is a great phone, state-of-the-art -- but it doesn't take pictures, you can't text, the phone doesn't work, you can't play your music on it."

The president compared it to a 3-year-old's play phone.

Some gadgets can cause embarrassment. The president, though, knows this. He has a selfie stick.
